If you ask a technician who poses the greater threat to an organization, the answer will generally be ‘the users’, and although this is somewhat accurate it’s just not entirely true.
The reasons for this are that the everyday user normally doesn’t possess the ‘keys to the kingdom’, nor are they responsible for keeping software patched, updating antivirus, auditing logs, controlling access, etc. We technicians are responsible for that and therefore it’s much more critical that technicians possess an extensive knowledge of security and that security knowledge should be focused on their respective technology discipline.
